Testimonials

- What our client says -

  • - ricardo g
    Client, We Care Roanoke
“Before coming to We Care Roanoke, I had gone through several therapists trying to find the right fit. When I met Sharon, I knew almost immediately that I had found someone I could trust and feel safe with. Over the past few years, I’ve grown tremendously. Sharon has created a space where I feel seen, heard, and comfortable talking openly about anything without fear of judgment. She has always been patient with me, allowing me the space to process things in my own time rather than pushing me toward conclusions before I’m ready. What has stood out most is that our work has gone far beyond surface-level therapy. Sharon takes the time to help me understand the root of what I’m experiencing while giving me practical tools I can use both inside and outside of therapy. She has helped me rebuild my confidence, become more accepting of what has already happened, and recognize that I still have the power to shape what comes next. Through our work together, I’ve learned how to be more present, navigate challenges differently, and recognize my own growth. Sharon has consistently gone above and beyond in supporting me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the care, patience, and guidance I’ve received at We Care Roanoke.”

- Our professionals -

sharon toliver-hardy
Sharon Toliver-Hardy, MSW, LCSW, CSAC, is the founder of We Care Roanoke and a behavioral health professional with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals, families, and communities navigate life's challenges and discover their capacity for healing and growth.
Throughout her career, Sharon has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing trauma, grief, addiction, relationship concerns, emotional challenges, and major life transitions. Her experience extends beyond the therapy room into behavioral health leadership, addiction services, group facilitation, and program development—all of which have shaped the way she approaches care today.
Sharon founded We Care Roanoke after years of seeing firsthand what people need from behavioral health care: a place where they can feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to explore difficult experiences, and empowered to move forward at their own pace. She believes therapy should go beyond addressing symptoms by helping people understand themselves, recognize their strengths, develop practical tools, and create meaningful change that extends into everyday life.
Her approach is compassionate, patient, and grounded in meeting people where they are. Sharon believes every person enters therapy with their own story, culture, experiences, strengths, and circumstances—and that those things deserve to be understood rather than judged.
For Sharon, We Care Roanoke is more than a practice. It represents decades of service and a deeply held belief that people should never be defined by their diagnosis, their mistakes, their circumstances, or the most difficult chapter of their lives.
There is always room for the next chapter.

She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Walden University and is also a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). In addition to her clinical training, Billy-J is a Master-Level Practitioner and Master Teacher of Tibetan/Usui Reiki. Reiki is a gentle energy-healing practice that may support relaxation, mindfulness, and overall well-being. When appropriate and requested by the client, Billy-J may incorporate Reiki alongside psychotherapy techniques. Reiki is a philosophy rather than a religion and is never intended to replace, challenge, or interfere with a client's religious or spiritual beliefs. Billy-J works with clients beginning at age 3 through adulthood and considers it a privilege to serve individuals and families throughout the community. She approaches her work with genuine compassion, curiosity, and gratitude, creating a space where clients can explore what healing means for them.
